other sympathizers & supporters

Many West Germans became known to support or sympathizers of the Red Army Faction. Originally the Red Army Faction enjoyed a stunning level of support among average Germans–a survey in 1971 found that 8 million Germans would be either willing to house a member of the Baader-Meinhof Gang for the night or would consider it–but by the time the groups began their deadly bombing campaign in 1972 their support had dropped off to almost zero.
After 1972 public supporters would focus less on the goals of the terrorists and instead focused on issues like prison conditions.
